France’s Lucas Hernandez Likely to Miss Euro 2024 Due to Knee Injury

France’s national team faces a setback ahead of Euro 2024 as defender Lucas Hernandez is poised to miss the tournament due to a knee injury sustained during Paris St-Germain’s recent Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund.

Hernandez, 28, was forced off the pitch in the 42nd minute of PSG’s 1-0 loss to Dortmund after injuring his left knee, with subsequent MRI scans confirming a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).

Paris St-Germain announced that Hernandez is scheduled for surgery in the coming days but refrained from providing a specific timeline for his recovery.

Typically, players sidelined with ACL injuries face a rehabilitation period of six to eight months, though individual cases may vary.

A crucial member of France’s squad, Hernandez played a pivotal role in their 2018 World Cup triumph and has earned 37 caps for Les Bleus.

This injury marks a repeat setback for Hernandez, who also suffered an ACL rupture during France’s 2022 World Cup campaign in Qatar, sidelining him for the remainder of the tournament.

With the 2024 European Championship set to kick off on Friday, 14 June in Germany, France will face the challenge of competing without one of their key defensive assets.
