Chiefs’ Rashee Rice faces assault probe post high-speed crash arrest.

An investigation has been launched into an alleged altercation involving Rashee Rice, a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, reportedly occurring at a Dallas club in the early hours of Monday, as reported by WFAA. Witnesses are currently being interviewed by officers regarding the incident.

Rice, already facing a looming multi-game suspension from the NFL due to his involvement in a multi-car collision, turned himself in to the police last month and was subsequently released on bond. He is currently facing eight charges related to the collision, including six counts of collision involving bodily injury, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury, and one count of aggravated assault

According to an arrest warrant affidavit obtained by the Dallas Morning News, Rice was driving the vehicle that precipitated the six-car crash, reaching a top speed of 119 miles per hour just prior to the incident.

This latest development concerning Rice’s alleged assault of a photographer adds further complications to his already troubled off-field situation. As a rookie last year, Rice played a significant role in the Chiefs’ successful title defense, but his burgeoning career now faces potential derailment due to these off-field issues.

In addition to his legal troubles, Rice, along with SMU cornerback Theodore Knox, is facing a lawsuit totaling $1 million from two victims of the March 30 crash. Plaintiffs Irina Gromova and Edvard Petrovskiy cite severe injuries including brain trauma, facial lacerations requiring stitches, multiple contusions, disfigurement, and internal bleeding, among other injuries.

With Rice’s availability for the upcoming season uncertain, the Chiefs made a strategic move by selecting former Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Worthy, known for his exceptional speed with a record-setting 40-yard-dash time at the NFL Combine, has already impressed during initial practices with Kansas City.

“It’s going to be fun to play in this offense,” remarked Worthy in a recent statement via The Athletic. “I played every (receiver) position at Texas. Just being able to have that versatility and play everything, I think, doesn’t limit me to any position.”
