Man City’s Guardiola named Premier League Manager of the Year

Pep Guardiola was named Premier League Manager of the Year on Tuesday after leading Manchester City to an unprecedented fourth consecutive title. The Spanish coach has now won this award four times since joining the club in 2016. With six league titles, he is now tied as the second most successful manager in the history of English football.

Only former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has won the award more times, with a total of 11.

Guardiola beat out Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, Aston Villa’s Unai Emery, Bournemouth’s Andoni Iraola, and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.

“I want to share this, yes, oh yes! Especially Mikel, for the incredible work he did before the last game, pushing us to the limit,” Guardiola said.

“And of course, Jurgen, for the unforgettable battles over the years. And Unai Emery, who did incredible things again, bringing Aston Villa into the Champions League.

“Andoni Iraola had his first season in the Premier League with Bournemouth, and he’s doing what he’s doing, recovering from a tough start to the season.

“It’s an honor to win this trophy alongside all of them. We will do our best to defend this award in the future.”

Guardiola added, “Winning four consecutive titles is one of the proudest achievements of my career. This is the toughest league in the world, and our opponents played incredible football.”
