Jaylen Brown Surprised by Eastern Conference Finals MVP Win: “I Don’t Ever Win Shit”

Boston Celtics’ forward Jaylen Brown expressed astonishment on Monday upon being named the Eastern Conference Finals MVP and receiving the Larry Bird Trophy.

“I wasn’t expecting it at all. I don’t ever win shit,” Brown remarked, as reported by SB Nation’s Noa Dalzell.

The accolade came after the Celtics secured a 105-102 victory in Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers, completing a series sweep. Brown, although not the top scorer for Boston throughout the series (that honor went to Jayson Tatum with 30.2 points per game), contributed significantly in the final game with a game-high 29 points. Notably, Brown made a pivotal defensive block against Andrew Nembhard and assisted Derrick White for the game-winning three-pointer with a minute left in regulation.

Expressing disappointment for not being included in the NBA’s All-Defensive teams, Brown stated, “I think I’m one of the best two-way wings in the game,” as per Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe. Meanwhile, his teammates Derrick White and Jrue Holiday secured spots on the All-Defensive second team.

The Larry Bird Trophy has now been claimed by a Celtic twice in its three-year history. Jayson Tatum previously won the award in 2022 during the Celtics’ victory over the Miami Heat in seven games. However, the Celtics lost to the Golden State Warriors in the subsequent Finals that year.

Looking ahead, Boston awaits the winner of the series between the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves, with the Mavericks currently holding a commanding 3-0 lead.

The NBA Finals are set to commence on June 6th.
