Commanders Release McManus Amid Lawsuit

The Washington Commanders announced on Sunday the release of kicker Brandon McManus.

This decision follows a lawsuit in which two women accuse McManus and the Jacksonville Jaguars of sexual assault. The alleged incident occurred during a charter flight to London last year while McManus was with the Jaguars. The women claim that McManus grinded and rubbed himself against them.

A spokesperson for the Commanders stated last Monday, “The team takes allegations of this nature very seriously.” The spokesperson also mentioned that the club had discussions with McManus’ agent and the NFL office regarding the lawsuit.

McManus, through his agent, denied the allegations, describing the lawsuit as an extortion attempt, according to Michael DiRocco of ESPN.

McManus joined Washington on a one-year contract in March. Prior to his brief stint with the Jaguars in 2023, he spent the first nine years of his career with the Denver Broncos.

The Jaguars released a statement last Monday acknowledging the lawsuit and emphasizing the gravity of the claims. “As we continue to look into the matter, it bears emphasizing that we insist on an organization built by people who represent our community and game with the highest character and class,” the Jaguars said.

Currently, Washington does not have another kicker on its roster.
