Chiefs’ Isaiah Buggs Arrested Again This Offseason

Isaiah Buggs, defensive tackle for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been arrested for the second time this offseason on a charge of domestic violence/burglary in Alabama, according to records from the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office. He was released on a $5,000 bond on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Buggs, who recently signed a $1,292,500 contract with Kansas City, faced his first arrest earlier in the offseason. On May 30, he turned himself in after being charged with two misdemeanor counts of second-degree animal cruelty. Allegedly, two dogs under Buggs’ care were found neglected and malnourished, resulting in the euthanasia of one of the dogs.

Buggs, known for his prowess as a run-stuffing tackle from Alabama, played three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before joining the Detroit Lions for the past two seasons. He has accumulated 89 tackles and two sacks in his career, starting 23 games and appearing in 56.

The Chiefs were anticipating Buggs to bolster their defensive line, especially after securing a long-term deal with All-Pro tackle Chris Jones and signing Derrick Nnadi and Tershawn Wharton, both of whom were free agents.

Kansas City, aiming for a record third consecutive Super Bowl appearance, has faced several off-the-field legal issues since their last championship victory over the San Francisco 49ers in February. Wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing eight felony charges following a high-speed crash in Dallas, while offensive linemen Chukwuebuka Godrick and Wanya Morris were arrested last month in Johnson County, Kansas, for misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
