Aaron Rodgers Skips Jets’ Minicamp Due to Planned Trip to Egypt
New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers was absent from the team’s mandatory minicamp due to a pre-planned trip to Egypt, sources confirmed to SNY’s Connor Hughes.
Rodgers, 40, had scheduled the trip during his recovery from an Achilles injury that prematurely ended his 2023 season after just four snaps. Known for his interest in Egyptian culture, Rodgers had arranged the visit assuming it would fall after the team’s offseason program.
His absence, alongside that of pass-rusher Haason Reddick, raised eyebrows during the Jets’ mandatory two-day workouts. Head coach Robert Saleh acknowledged Rodgers was away for a reason “very important to him,” as reported by The Associated Press.
Despite being categorized as unexcused, the Jets maintain that Rodgers’ absence will not impact his upcoming second season with the team, according to Hughes. The former league MVP had participated in the Jets’ voluntary offseason activities, focusing on his recovery and readiness for the upcoming season.
Saleh noted that Rodgers had informed the team in advance of his plans, although it remains unclear whether teammates were aware of his absence during the workouts. Backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor stepped in with the first-team offense upon learning of Rodgers’ absence.
Rodgers, who has consistently displayed his commitment to returning to peak performance, continues to rehab his injury and prepare for the upcoming NFL season with the Jets.
