Dallas Mavericks’ Doncic, Irving Shine with 33 Points Each, Advance 3-0
Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving led the charge for the Dallas Mavericks with 33 points each as they secured a commanding 116-107 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 3 of the Western Conference finals.
The Mavericks showcased their resilience, closing out the game with a decisive 12-3 run. This victory marks their fifth consecutive win in the playoffs.
Rookie center Dereck Lively II exited the game with a sprained neck following accidental contact from Karl-Anthony Towns’ knee. Despite the setback, the Mavericks maintained their momentum.
P.J. Washington ignited the pivotal run with a crucial corner 3-pointer, capitalizing on a pass from Doncic to Irving, who facilitated the play.
Doncic and Irving continued to shine down the stretch, with Doncic sinking a shot in the lane to extend the lead, followed by Irving’s clutch falling-down jumper, igniting the crowd.
An alley-oop dunk from Doncic to Daniel Gafford further solidified the Mavericks’ lead, sealing the victory with 34 seconds remaining.
Anthony Edwards led the charge for the Timberwolves with 26 points, but his efforts were not enough to overcome the Mavericks’ late surge.
Despite a strong performance from Towns, who contributed 14 points, the Timberwolves struggled to convert from beyond the arc, missing all eight 3-point attempts in the game.
Doncic showcased his scoring prowess, shooting 10 of 20 from the field and sinking 5 of 11 from 3-point range. Irving also delivered an impressive performance, making 12 of 20 field goals and connecting on 3 of 6 from beyond the arc.
With this victory, the Mavericks move within one win of their first NBA Finals appearance since 2011, when they clinched the franchise’s only championship.
In the second quarter, Lively suffered a sprained neck following accidental contact with Towns’ knee, resulting in his departure from the game. Despite the setback, Lively’s contribution in the series thus far has been notable, shooting a perfect 12 of 12 from the field.
The Mavericks will look to close out the series as they face the Timberwolves in Game 4 on Tuesday night in Dallas.
