Hawks Send Dejounte Murray to Pelicans in Multi-Player Deal
The Atlanta Hawks are trading guard Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for Larry Nance Jr., Dyson Daniels, E.J. Liddell, and two first-round picks, according to sources from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.
Atlanta will acquire the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2025 first-round pick, along with the less favorable of the Pelicans’ and Milwaukee Bucks’ 2027 first-round picks.
Murray joined Atlanta from the San Antonio Spurs, where he was an All-Star in 2022, and spent two seasons with the Hawks alongside point guard Trae Young. During his time with the team, they failed to achieve a record above .500.
The Pelicans, who lacked a true point guard last season, will now benefit from Murray’s skills. Murray averaged 6.4 assists, 22.5 points, and 5.3 rebounds per game last season.
For the Hawks, this trade signifies a step towards a rebuild after not winning a playoff series in the past three years.
Larry Nance Jr. will be entering next season on an expiring $11-million contract, having averaged 5.7 points per game last year, his lowest since his rookie season. Dyson Daniels, 21, has been noted for his defense in his two NBA seasons, though he has only made 31.2% of his three-point attempts in his career.
