Maddison Dropped from England’s Euro 2024 Squad

James Maddison will not be included in England’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024. The Tottenham midfielder was initially called up by Gareth Southgate to the provisional 33-man selection. He participated in England’s friendly against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Monday, coming off the bench in the 3-0 win at St James’ Park.

However, Maddison is one of seven players set to be cut from the squad when the final 26-man roster is announced on Saturday. The 27-year-old has earned seven senior England caps and was part of Southgate’s squad for the 2022 World Cup, although he did not make an appearance in Qatar.

Maddison joined Tottenham in a £40 million move from Leicester last summer but had an inconsistent season. His strong start was disrupted by injury. Despite his efforts, he has now been omitted from the England squad traveling to Germany for Euro 2024. Southgate still needs to drop another six players before finalizing the roster.

The final England squad for the tournament will be revealed on Saturday, following their last warm-up friendly against Iceland at Wembley the previous night. Notably, Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw, who returned to training on Wednesday after a lengthy injury lay-off, remains in contention for the squad.
